I remember doing this on my test... Do you know what extraneous and non-extraneous means?

The definition is: irrelevant or unrelated to the subject being dealt with Basically it's an EXTRA solution. I look at it as it is... the word is EXTRAneous so you will have two solutions but only one of them will be correct

If it's NON-extraneous, than you won't have extra solutions

For Tristan's example, try solving: sqrt(x-1) = x -7 For Halley's example, try solving: sqrt(x-2) = 5
