What product was important during the 1800's? Cotton, tobacco, corn, or rice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It depends where. the cotton gin was created until the 1700's so maybe not that

In the South, cotton was the biggest crop (King Cotton), and is what a majority of plantations produced. The cotton gin definitely helped because it made preparing cotton much faster and more efficient. So my bet would be cotton, although tobacco and rice have always been produced in the South as well. The North around the time was booming industrially, so while they had farms, they were nearly on the same scale as the Southern plantations, so I don't think corn would be it.
