GIVE ME THREE GOOD REASONS WHY GUNS SHOULD BE BANNED?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can think of only one reason to ban them, that they are used to murder other people. BUT, so are knives, and we can't go around banning everything just because it poses a threat (although, Cheney thinks so. See: 1% doctrine). That's not liberty in the least. There are much more pros than cons when it comes to this subject. For instance, simply making it illegal would take the guns out of law abiding citizens' hands, but the true criminals would still be armed, as they do not follow the law anyway. Then, as you stated, who is there to protect?

Three reasons... just not to the question you asked :) 1) A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. 2) A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. 3) A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

) While it's true that guns don't kill people, people kill people, it's also true that guns are enablers. Columbine, VTech, and thousands of accidental shootings would not happen in a world without guns. 2) Guns promote a culture of fear. If you have to live in constant worry of your enemies being armed, you have to arm yourself to protect yourself. What you end up with is a culture where everyone is armed and in this vigilante-wannabe mindset. 3) Crime stats are relatively low, and you are much safer than you may think you are. You don't need to be armed at all times to protect yourself, your family, or your property. The police can often handle a situation that comes up, and if protecting your family is really your concern, then get a burglar alarm, as any blaring loud noise will scare most criminals off. I view these as reasons to criminalize guns; I also know numerous reasons to keep them legal. I'm on the fence on the issue, but this is just what I thought of now.

Local level government should have the power to regulate where you carry weapons, but not your ownership. In Texas, if you bring a gun into a place where they serve liquor you will go to jail for ten years. Employers should have the right to ban weapons on their grounds just like private homeowners should be able to. I don't care what the second amendment says... paying my mortgage means I can tell you to leave the gun out of my home. Now that we got the semantics out of the way.... here are three reasons (I don't believe in them either... just answering your question). 1.) Guns make killing too easy. Bombs at least require some knowledge and hammers make a mess. 2.) Innocent bystanders. How often have you ever heard the term "innocent bystander" when talking about a drowning? 3.) Arms race economics. By having pistols legal, criminals have to move up to automatic weapons in order to procure an advantage. By making assault rifles legal, they have to upgrade to cruise missiles (can you tell I am reaching for this argument!).
