how didmprohibition contribute to the growthnof organized crime

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once prohibition took affect and outlawed alcohol, individuals would smuggle or illegally make their own and sell it for more then it could have been sold before prohibition because it is now on the black market. individuals, such as al capone, capitalized on this and turned it into large illegal business (hence the "organized" crime). similar to today with gang fights, rival crime syndicates would fight each other for areas to sell their products to. this lead to things like th valentines day massacre
