I think you take the left hand bit out of the absolute values and take the plus/minus values of the right hand side. (at least that's what I'm reading here: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/absineq.htm ) for example here, it'd be |a – 7| ≤ 5 a - 7 <= 5 a - 7 <= -5
