Linear algebra, So I have to find the "row echelon form" of this matrix: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tv1nag8qjgasf5a/2013-11-16%2003.22.03.jpg I know what is a row echelon form matrix looks like and what it satisfies, what I don't know is how to bring something completely random matrix into row echelon form ?

Do you know what a Gaussian elimination is?

OpenStudy (christos):

No can you please tell me ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gaussian elimination is an algorithm, or a sequence of steps, used to solve systems of linear equations. It consists of three elementary row operations: #1.) Swap the positions of two rows. #2.) Multiply a row by a nonzero scalar. #3.) Add a row to a scalar multiple of another. Let's do an example. Surely, you should remember augmented matrices (if not, it's just another set of elements tacked onto another matrix, you'll see). |dw:1384566073634:dw|
