I need help, can someone teach me show to do cubic functions?I already wasted one thread, and don't want to do that again.
Do you want the standard approach or the non-standard approach?
Oh, that again, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! I am pretty stuid, so just go slow.
Let's start small...just post a sample problem you are working on.
I am not, I just want to know.
if I had a teacher ....
There are many things you can do with cubic functions, so unless you post exactly what you are having trouble with, I'm afraid no one will be able to help you.
What are you having difficulty with regarding cubic functions?
Then I am out.
google cubic functions
you again, asking me to draw x^4 as drawing a cube--x^3.
go to khan academy click knowledge map and see where you stand on there
Cubic function: y = ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d
Yes.
Go on.
So what are you trying to do with this cubic function?
Graph it?
you would love my professor.. any question you ask him he will reply go to wikipedia, or us the helpfiles
use
I am not working on a specific problem, can you just teach me everything, This isn't "just" ik, but that's why I asked this q.
laughing out loud
someone asked him what is a tensor he replied well if it looks like a duck and smells like a duck
@nincompoop, ty, I precipitate that comment!
@dan815, I think you should just STOP TYPING!
@SolomonZelman is merely trolling because we can't see his Smartscore. http://openstudy.com/users/solomonzelman A person who has Questions Answered:948 and Medals Received:1043 doesn't have an idea about cubic functions?Certainly non intuitive.
I'll make a new question again then.
When the website will get fixed, you'll se, It is 87.
do you know synthetic division or polynomial division ?
@hartnnm TY!, YEs I know both.
good!
this is what happened in my class
maybe this can help you a bit http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/504335bee4b000724d4620b4
@dan815 pellet!!!!!!!!!!!!, stop typing!
OMG, @dan815, are you OK? @hartnn, can you please continue helping me? I hate people that interrupt!!!!
lol
i know even i am redirecting you somewhere but i have made that keeping in mind that the user does not know much about cubic equation....maybe you can have a look there and ask doubts ?
I didn't mean that, i clicked something. have a look where?
I don't have any specific equations that I am working on.
I see how to find the zeros
so by "doing" cubic equations , you meant solving only , right ? or what else do u need ?
These words confuse me,... I actually meant learning cubic functions, I suppose, means whatever can be done with them. (not derivatives, but on the level of the course)
you can 1) graph or 2) factorize a cubic function or you can solve a cubic equation...
There are generally three things you can do with a cubic function: 1. Graph 2. Solve 3. Analyze
lets start from graphing, I think solving for x, is just like any other, but it has x^3 in it.
I guess what you're going to say "factorizing comes first"
type bit by bit please, so that I can process.
Graphing many of them will require calculus. Because you have to find the peaks and valleys. The points where the slope is zero. Also infection points as well. This is all in addition to just finding the zeroes. However, if you already have the zeroes, you can use that to figure out the general shape of the Cubic. But really, to graph more accurately, you'll need calculus. No way to avoid it.
can i assume you can graph quadratic functions ? how do u graph it ?
Lets see if I can, I can try, but I was never good at functions.
Ik so little to start with..., ik.
exactly what Hero said. to graph accurately, you'll need calculus. to graph approximately, you can just find few points on graph, like taking x=0,1,2,3.... and find y
OK, harttn as you said, can I graph a quadratic functions, again, I might be able to, I stink at functions
to find x-intercepts of f(x) = ax^3 +bx^2+cx+d you will set f(x) = 0 this is same as solving the cubic function to get y-intercept , you set x=0, so y intercept is just (0,d) these intercepts will give a rough idea of how a graph looks...
I see.
that is for the zeros of the functions.....
Anybody? Hey?
I can;t sit here for ever, ik, but sorry.
maybe now its time to ask specific questions..
id have a specific question, cn you ask me, and see if i can do it or not?
find the intercepts for f(x) = x^3+9x^2+26x+24
then draw approximate graph this covers all 3 things, graph, factor, solve
OK, lets see, the hardest for me would be getting rid of x^3....
