Solve the problem. (Must show work!) 1. A 16-ounce bottle of fruit punch costs $2.40. A 24-ounce bottle of fruit punch costs $3.84. Which size is the better buy? The _______ -ounce bottle costs less per ounce. So, the _________ - ounce bottle is the better buy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ $2.40 }{ 16 oz. } = \frac{ $0.15 }{ 1 oz. }\] \[\frac{ $3.84 }{ 24 oz. } = \frac{ $0.16 }{ 1 oz. }\] The 16-ounce bottle costs less per ounce. So, the 16-ounce bottle is the better buy!

Thanks! But how did you solve? Because I want to understand the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like the work shown.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so you see the fraction \[\frac{ $2.40 }{ 16 oz. }\] Well, when you deal with a fraction, you divide the numerator(the top number) by the denominator(the bottom number. So in this case it would equal 2.40 divided by 16 which equals $0.15/1oz.

And....I did that with the other fractions also! Hope this helps :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg, thank you so much! :)

No problem!
