Nico bought a bag of jelly beans. He ate 15 jelly beans and then gave one third of the remaining jelly beans to his brother. If he gave 25 jelly beans to his brother, how many jelly beans,j, were in the bag that Nico bought? Please write in an equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 25*3 + 15 Because he gave away 1/3 of what is left and 1/3 = 25 plus the 15 he already ate which would equal the total amount.

x=90?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where did you get the three from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3 is how much he gave away so you have to do the reciprocal which would be 3/1 which is 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand or do I need to explain more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand now thanks.
