Describe in paragraph form how to solve this system using elimination. x + 2y = 10 2x +3y = 16

Multiply the first equation by 2. Then subtract the first equation from the second equation.

personally, I would first multiply every factor in the top equation by -2, giving you -2x-4y=-20. then you would add -2x in the top equation to 2x in the bottom equation, cancelling out the x's, then you should add -4y and 3y, and then add -20 and 16. you should get the equation -y=-4, which is simplified to y=4. now that you have y, plug it into either one of the equations initially provided to get x, in this case, I would plug it into the top one. so you'd have x+2(4)=10. now solve that, and you should get x=2. so your coordinates are (2,4)
