What is the maximum value of the function y=-x^2+8x+3?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

-x² + 8x +3 = 0 we differentiate the equation -2x +8 = 0 when x = 4 the equation is at a maximum.

@wolf1728's method works, but if you're not in calc yet you'll have to write the function in vertex form. Try completing the square.
