What happens in mitosis and meiosis and why is each process important to a living organism?

This is what I have for mitosis, if you could help me with meiosis, and also let me know if what I have is ok. During mitosis, a cell splits and forms two identical copies of itself, and each copy has the exact same number of chromosomes that the cell it originated from had. Thanks!
