Start with translating this into some equations. I'll help you with the first one. The sum of five times a number (5x) , and twice a second number (2y) is 18. So, the first equations is 5x+2y=18

I don't understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sum means plus, (+), two numbers added together. Five times a number is just what it sounds like . 5x(a number) . We just use x and y to "stand in" for numbers we dont know yet.
