how would a planet move if the sun suddenly disappeared

OpenStudy (jmark):

Without the gravity of the sun to hold us in orbit, we would follow Newton's laws of motion and fly off in a straight line. It would be like swinging a rock in a circle on a string and the string breaking. Learn more about Newton's 3 Laws of Motion http://goo.gl/0vZmNY

I lyk dis ans (mdl'd :D)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

note that the planet wont fly off its orbit immediately, because gravity can only move at the speed of light

OpenStudy (radar):

Good that gives me some more time to think about it. What is a possibility of another orbit maybe a much larger orbit produced by gravity from another star?
