Help with quadratic equation please...the question is below

Solve the quadratic equation using any algebraic method. Leave your answer in simplest form. \[\frac{x ^{2} }{ 2 } - 5x + 17 = 0\]

would you mind working it out for me...i got the wrong answer when i used the quadratic formula and can't find my mistake

i got x = 5 plus or minus sq rt 39

ok \[x = \frac{5 \pm \sqrt{25-(4)(1/2)(17)}}{2(1/2)} = 5 \pm \sqrt{25-34} = 5\pm 3i\]
