The radius of our galaxy is approximately 1.1 × 1021 m. A spaceship sets out to cross the galaxy in 22 y , as measured on board the ship. How close to the speed of light c does the spaceship need to travel? A useful approxi- mation is Square Root (1/1 + x) = 1 −1/2 x for x <<1 . The speed of light is 3 × 108 m/s.
