OpenStudy (sierra_grey):

need help how to write the steps out for The perimeter of a rectangular photo is 72 cm. The length is twice the width. What are the length and width of the photo? I think the answer is 12l by 24w

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well lets see...the perimeter is 2L + 2W the total is 72 so 2L + 2W = 72 We know the length is 2 times the Width...so L = 2W Sub that into the first equation so 2(2W) + 2W = 72 4W + 2W = 72 6W = 72 W = 12 If the Width is 12 then the Length would be twice that so 12W by 24L

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

You had it all right...just notice it says Length is twice the width

OpenStudy (sierra_grey):

okay, thanks so much!

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

@Helloimjohn1234 Notice that since Length is twice the width...the 2nd equation needed is L = 2W

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

@sierra_grey No problem :)
