HELP You are able to find 50 new quarters every week and after 5 weeks you have 350 quarters. 1. Write an equation that gives the number of quarters as a function of how many weeks passes. which is y = mx + b ? right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you need to know your slope and your intercept. Do you know where to start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well my slope is 50 quarters. and I think my intercept is 5 weeks but it doesn't seem right. because the other question asks me At the end of school (24 weeks) you cash in your quarters How much do you have? and it gave me a - number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the number of weeks is not the intercept that is the independent variable. your intercept would be the number of quarters you had at week 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh... so is it rate of change?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH 350? quarters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well at 5 weeks you have 350. How much would you have at zero weeks. Count backward. how much did you have at 4 week then three weeks all the way to 0 weeks that will be your intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would have none?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 weeks you have 350 4 weeks you would have 300 3 weeks you would have 250 . . . 0 weeks you would have ????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes so you have 100 coins before you start collecting this is you intercept. Now can you make the equation? You have the slope and the intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y = 50x + 100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good job you got it!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :) but the next question says at the end of school (24 weeks) you cash in your quarters. How much money do you have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you just need to plug in 24 into your formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plug it in 50x+ 100 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50(24) +100

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it took so long my computer locked up :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh would the answer be 1100? (: and its okay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How much money that is.!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50(24) + 100 = 1300 quarters there are four quarters per dollar so you need to divide by 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oohh so 325?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes 325 dollars!!!! good job

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay thanks so much:)
