3. In humans, brown eyes (B) are dominant over blue (b). A brown eyed man marries a blue-eyed woman and they have three children, two of whom are brown-eyes and one of whom is blue-eyed. whats the mans genotype?Heterozygous whats the woman genotype?Homozygous what are the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring? The genotypes are Bb and bb the phenotypes are _____

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

hello...lets start shall we?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

u there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey sorry about that my computer was actin dead slow so i had to start over

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@shrutipande9

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ok lets start now...tell me wat all do u know about monohybrid cross and the pre requisites for it? or should we start from the beginning?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we can begin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and yes i know about it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like i know about heterozygous and homozygous but sometimes unsure what the question is asking me

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

okay..so now where r u stuck?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

u know the basic terminologies? B for dominant b for recessive and how to draw a punnet square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like i want to ant you to check if my answer is on the right track i put the answer in. im unsure for phen of offspring .should i say 66% have brown eyes and 34 % have blue there?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

actually see..in humans every birth is an independent event....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aw ok

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

so like if u have Bb and bb parents then overall for the population the ratio is 1:1 for the children....but in humans out of 4 u cannot say that 2 will have blue and 2 brown..u getting me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but since they said we r only dealing with th 3 children i have 2 Bb and 1 bb i didnt put 4 because they have 3 children

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ok lets put it this way...u know the parents have genotype Bb and bb right? and the possible genotypes of children can be Bb bb right? now they are having their first child...so now as the ratio is 1:1 he has a 505 chance of having blue eyes and 50% of brown..right?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

now lets say the first child has brown eyes...now the parents are going to have the 2nd child...the birth of 2nd child has no link to the 1st child havingg brown eyes...the second child now also has 50% chaance of getting either blue or brown

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

u getting me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i should say 50 has brown and 50 has blue?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

50% \(\color{red}c\color{red}h\color{red}a\color{red}n\color{red}c\color{red}e\) of getting brown or blue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok so even if they talk about 3 ppl still use the 4 boxes for the punnt square right?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

yep...like this u mean right?|dw:1385050486805:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i got the same answer

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

cool:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) so since they said what is the phenotype of the children we know that is physical characteristics so say 50% chance there would be brown eyes and 50% chance blue eyes right?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

yes....correct

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

do u have a problem similar to this? so that i can be sure u have got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow ook seems like i am on the right tract with this question thanks!!!!!!!!greatly appreciated .can u help me with another.this one i am clueless about it? can i post a different question ?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

yep sure:)
