Calcium sulfide forms when calcium loses 2 valence electrons to sulfur. What type of a bond is formed? Covalent or ionic?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it loses then its ionic, if it shares its a covalent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's ionic, haha.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep, it's Ionic. Covalent is only gases. Calcium is a metal.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

anything can be a gas, thus covalent bonds do not solely exist in gases.
