OpenStudy (countrygirl15):

I need help solving a system by substitution. Please don't just give answers.

OpenStudy (countrygirl15):

OpenStudy (phi):

usually, with 3 variables, I find elimination less confusing. But in this case, notice the last equation let's you solve for x in terms of z as a first step, can you solve for x, using the 3rd equation ?

OpenStudy (austinl):

Too bad you are required to use substitution... That makes things way harder. Elimination would be better. Cramer's Rule is the best! Sorry to interrupt guys. :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divide both sides of the third equation by -2. Replace -x and -z in the first equation with the result and then solve for y.

OpenStudy (countrygirl15):

2x+2z=4 ___________ -1-y--1=-8 ---------- is y 8??

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

No.
