(Will give medal!!!) Which shows solutions to x + 2y = 8 if x and y must be whole numbers. A. {(8, 0), (6, 1), (4, 2)} B. {(2, 4), (1, 6), (0, 8)} C. {(0, 8), (1, 7), (2, 4)} D. {(0, 8), (1, 5), (2, 4)}

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

just plug in the values into the equation and see if they fit just in case you don't know the first number in the parentheses is x-value and the second is y-value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

None of them fit though??? I don't get it.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

look at A x = 8 and y = 0 8 + 2(0) = 8 8 = 8 that fits now try the other 2 sets

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

they are (6,1) and (4,2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you just ignore the 0 that's there? Wouldn't 8 + 2(0) = 0?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

no: 8 + nothing = 8

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the 8 doesn't disappear..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow I feel like an idiot now. I completely forgot order of operations. Sorry about that.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ah i see yea order of operations is important have you heard of PEDMAS?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. I'm usually very good with remembering it, but I have my moments obviously.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yep we all do..

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

- though not everybody admits it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep. Well thanks for your help, here's your medal as promised :)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):
