Use synthetic division to find f (-5) if f(x)=2x^6-49x^4+3x^3-14x^2-2x-14 a. -104 b. 626 c. -76 d. none of these

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so synthetically divide it. do you forget how to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep I'm not sure how to synthetically divide....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright its hard to explain but you only use the coefficients and if it skips a degree like the above skips ^5 you have to insert a 0 there. then you drop the lead coefficient down then finish the synthetic division. its hard to explain without picture. go to khanacademy.org for video

Okay, thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I haven't worked it but what did you get for the remainder?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The remainder was -706 I think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you're not confident, just plug -5 in for x and see if its the same number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, thanks for your help!

no problem
