Select interior, exterior, or on the circle (x - 5) 2 + (y + 3) 2 = 25 for the following point. (3, 2) interior exterior on the circle

OpenStudy (ranga):

Put the point (3,2) into the expression: (x - 5)^2 + (y + 3)^2 - 25 If the value is > 0 the point is outside the circle If the value = 0 the point lies on the circle If the value is < 0 the point lies inside the circle.

OpenStudy (ranga):

An alternative way: From the equation, the center of the circle is at (5, -3) and the radius is 5. If the distance from (5, -3) to (3, 2) is greater than 5 the point lies outside the circle; equal to 5, on the circle; less than 5 inside the circle.

Ok so i think its on the circle right?

OpenStudy (ranga):

No.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (ranga):
