Let f(x) = x2 - 8x + 5. Find f(-1). help with this ?

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

Okay, plug in -1 in place of x.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Oh. This might seem complicated, but it's very simple, you see! Look at f(x) and f(-1). The "x" represents the x-value and right now, they changes the x-value to -1. So you have to input -1 to all the xs.\[f(x)=x ^{2}-8x+5\]\[f(-1)=-1^{2}-8(-1)+5\]

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Remember to use PEMDAS and do anything to both sides of the equation to keep the equation balanced. ;]
