How did the actions of Union generals Grant and Sherman affect the outcome of the Civil War? They destroyed the South’s morale and captured its capital, forcing the South to surrender. They respected Southerners’ property, helping the war to end peacefully. They rebuilt Southern cities that had been destroyed after the South surrendered. They lost so many soldiers that they had to stop fighting, forcing the Union to surrender.
