There are 16 girls and 12 boys on the cross country team. What fraction of the team is made up of boys?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok well this is pretty easy to solve first you need to find out how manny kids there are total and you do that by adding the number of girls and the number of boys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28 kids

OpenStudy (dobby1):

yes then you put the number of which ever group they ar asking for above it in this case it is boys so what number goes over 28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12/28

OpenStudy (dobby1):

yes now we have to simplify it so what is the biggest number that goes into both numbers in our fraction

OpenStudy (dobby1):

Hello? @krist

OpenStudy (dobby1):

you there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i dont know what the biggest number would be

OpenStudy (dobby1):

the biggest number would be 4 because 4 is the biggest number that goes into both 12 and 28. you follow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok so what is 12 divided by 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (dobby1):

great what is 28 divided by 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7 so my answer would be 3/7
