Solve the following. One car left Carville driving toward Beattyville which is 300 miles away. A second car left Beattyville at the same time, driving toward Carville. If the first and second cars are averaging 55 mph and 65 mph, in how many hours will they pass each other? I have three more probs like this but i just need to know the formula to solve this! PLEASE DONT SOLVE FOR ME JUST THE FORMULA

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

time = distance/rate time = 300 / 120 (to get the 120, the 2 cars are approaching each other at 65+55 mph = 2.5 hours

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

remember, just knowing the formula is not enough. In this case you have to know that the cars rates must be added together.
