Name this organic molecule :

@TuringTest @Preetha

OpenStudy (aaronq):

so you wanna find the longest chain, then name the double bond at the lowest position then name the other groups on the double bond. hept-3-ene is the main chain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hept-3-ene-chlorobromine? @aaronq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@TuringTest

OpenStudy (aaronq):

um i think it's \(cis\)-1-bromo,3-chloro,4-isopropyl-hept-3-ene

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, thats not it :/ @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

are you using cis/trans or Z/E ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it could be either or, the question is generic @aaronq

OpenStudy (kainui):

Perhaps instead of using isopropyl you should name that alkyl substituent as: 4-(1-methylethyl)- Also, names don't have commas in them like that @aaronq but you might have some if it was like 2,2-dibromohexane or something.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

lol wow. facepalm. i haven't named organic molecules in so long that messed up on the format. thanks for the reminder on my misuse of the commas, @Kainui.

OpenStudy (kainui):

All good haha, I make mistakes all the time too. I mean, in all honesty it's really more important that you can read them and draw the structure from the name which is a lot easier and useful to do.
