The lab needs 250ml of a 16% solution of glucose. You have on hand a 500ml bottle of a 50% glucose and 5 200ml bottles of sterile water. How would you prepare the needed solution?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16% of 250 ml = 40 ml of glucose To get that 40 ml of glucose, we'll need 80 ml from that 500ml bottle of 50% glucose. 250 - 80 = 170 So, we'll also need 170ml of sterile water. Answer: Combine 80ml of 50% glucose and 170 ml of sterile water.
