Standing due south of a tower 50m high, the angle of elevation of the top is 26 degrees. What is the angle of elevation after walking a distance 120 m due east?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

|dw:1385298446964:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you please explain it further @kc_kennylau

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure it's standing due south of the tower and not west or maybe east? because if the man was initially standing due south of the tower then the angle of elevation of the top of the tower would be zero wouldn't it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the same thing

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Why would it be \(0\deg\)? @fatma01

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1385298842916:dw| where T is the top of the tower and M is the man

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 22.61degrees following your graph @kc_kennylau but it turned out wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What if it was 3 dimensional?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

|dw:1385298994733:dw|

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

where G is ground

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now if the man were to move 120 m due to east it would be|dw:1385298992080:dw| the angle we would be looking for would be the angle of depression of the top of the tower
