Number Theory - need translation to plain math :) I just got a number theory book and I'm already stuck on page 2 trying to understand the expression. So any help is greatly appreciated. it states: "if x not 0, and c|a.c|b -> c|ma + nb for all integral m and n" HUH?.. translated, "if a divided by c and b divided by c implies ma divided by c + nb" Why the +nb?, Is there any other way to translate this? And what exactly is this statement saying?

OpenStudy (jkristia):

is c|ma + nb actually c|(ma + nb) ?
