Why does it take significantly stronger magnetic and electric field strengths to move the beam of alpha particles compared with the beam of electrons(beta particles)?Medal will be given to best answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The alpha particle has two protons that means its charge double according to electron has. However, the alpha particle is about 8000 times heavier than electron, this causes that the alpha particle shows much more resistance than electron does with same magnitude of exerted force.

how does it compare

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about Lorentz Force.. \[ma=q(E + v*B)\] The alpha particle is much more massive than electron. So you can compare their acceleration.

oh ok thank u
