dakotas real error was in not doing math, but trying to remember some visual method ....

this means:
\[\large\dfrac{(\dfrac ab)}{(\dfrac nm)}\]
if we multiply this by (m/n)/(m/n)
\[\large\dfrac{(\dfrac ab)(\dfrac mn)}{(\dfrac nm)(\dfrac mn)}\]
the denominator goes to 1, and we are left with what is taught as a visual rule
\[\frac ab\div \frac nm=\large\dfrac ab\cdot\dfrac mn\]
