-2x - 4 > 8 add 4 -2x > 12 divide by -2 and flip the sign x < -6

\[-2x-4>8\] Add 4 to both sides \[-2x>12\] Divide both sides by -2. Since we are dividing by a negative change to > to a < x < -6
