Why the Euphrates River is important in the history of Mesopotamia The Euphrates River is important in the history of Mesopotamia because it supplied part of the water to Mesopotamian Civilizations. In Mesopotamia when the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers flooded, they finally developed an irrigation system to take advantage of the floods to water their crops. Without the water, their crops could have died because Mesopotamia’s climate was hot and dry. If their crops died, humans could’ve died of starvation - which may could have led to the decrease in human population. They also used the water, to bathe, drink, cook with, and many other things. That is why the Euphrates River is important in history.
