OpenStudy (lucaz):

how can I divide this http://www.revista.vestibular.uerj.br/lib/spaw2/uploads/images/2011_Discursivo/2011_Disc_Mat_Questao10b.PNG by (x-1)(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\left( x-1 \right)\left( x-2 \right)=x ^{2}-3x+2\] now you can divide by it.

OpenStudy (lucaz):

I did, but I got a wrong answer, it should be x^2-4x+8, but I found 2x^2+6x-2

OpenStudy (lucaz):

hi, can you help me?

OpenStudy (btaylor):

You must've divided wrong in the first term, since you shouldn't end up with a 2x^2 term. Try it again, and see what you get.

OpenStudy (lucaz):

I'm uploading to show it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 should not be there ,also there is m in the question.

OpenStudy (btaylor):

x^2 * 2x^2 isn't 4x^2. Besides, there isn't a 4x^4 in the problem.

OpenStudy (lucaz):

geez, I'm crazy

OpenStudy (lucaz):

I will try again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[but there is only x ^{4},not 2x ^{4}\]

OpenStudy (lucaz):

yes.. thanks
