CALCULUS FINAL SOON PLEASE HELP What is the difference between the second derivative test and the procedure used to determine inflection points? I fell behind in class and need to learn this. I'm going to have to do an essay on the test which explains this, and I have no clue

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

@BlackLabel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its the same thing @bibby Do you know?

OpenStudy (bibby):

math is for nerds and the first derivative is the tangent ain't it? @nincompoop get to work bub

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

umm no

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

the slope of the tangent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first derivative test determines the critical points and the second derivative test is to determine the inflection points

OpenStudy (bibby):

english please

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

erm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so basically ya take the derivative of the function and set it to 0 then solve for x the maximum or minimum occurs at that point

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

go on

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

you're correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok now inflection points just mean where the function changes concavity So ya take the second derivative of the function and set it to 0 and then solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So basically u use the second derivative test to find inflection points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Umm basically we use these test to determine the shape of the original function

OpenStudy (bibby):

I use a calculator to determine the shape of my functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahaha
