What a one-to-one function and how can I use it to may a encrypt message?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for every x value, there is only one y value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

still not understanding. how to I may a message?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

example f(x)=3x-1, the message "Hello" would be encrypted 23 24 35 35 44 since H corresponds to 8 and f(8)=3(8)-1=23.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it's a one to one function, it has an inverse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

therefore the message can be decoded and read.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it has a inverse, I do not understand how the 23 24 35 35 44

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How pgpilot? and I need to make sure to give a function equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the inverse of f(x) = 3x-1 is g(x) = (x+1)/3 so put int those numbers to get out the number of the alphabet... i.e., g(23) = (23+1)/3 = 24/3 = 8 => h

WoW!

Thank you much pgpilot326
