OpenStudy (lena772):

Jack's pet dog has been prescribed x mg of a medicine per day. Each pill of the medicine has 15 mg of the medicine. Jack has to give his dog a total of 25 pills. If Jack gave his dog medicine for 7 days, use the expression below to interpret the situation. 25 - 7 times x over 15 Part A: What does x over 15 represent? (3 points) Part B: What does the 7 times x over 15 represent? (3 points) Part C: What does the entire expression represent? (4 points)

OpenStudy (lena772):

\[25-\frac{ 7x }{ 15 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this expression doesnt represent anything at all

OpenStudy (lena772):

....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hint: Part C (the equation) tells you how many pills there's left to give.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why does the expression have x represent the number of mg when pills are stated to have 15 mg each?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perhaps as a trick question? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@monokerous Wouldn't this be more practical if it was written 375 - 15x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are many ways to write the equation. Your equation shows for mg. Hers is for number of pills.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But this means the person has to split the pills one way or another if they are suppose to use evenly throughout the whole week. What kind of doctor prescribes medicine where the person has to cut their pills?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, my guess is that those who set math questions like this don't really think that far… haha.

So much for using math in the real world when questions dont come close to being real life examples lol
