OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

can anybody suggest me some good theme for my college newsletter or magazine...something related to biotechnology...i am in charge and i haven't come up with a single idea...please guys i badly need this...

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

@aaronq @Frostbite @petiteme @sarah786 @anybodywhoknowsaboutbiology

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

@karatechopper @GTXMUQSIT

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@shrutipande9 .. What kinda theme ?? no idea :(

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

@shrutipande9 plz explain a little what type of theme?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

sure....umm..last year we had picked up the theme green biotechnology..then we collected many articles related to that and published a magazine...a year before that it was about biorhythms..so something like this...

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

You can use Global warming, Pollution (air, water, noise pollution etc), Evolution, and also extinction of animals, or power generation from bio mass etc. @shrutipande9

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

oooo....power generation seems a cool one..:D thanks..@gtxmuqsit

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

@shrutipande9 welcome :)

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

also if u could come up with so something else...please do write it here... also i was thinking a topic like from organism to the core....like how d history of scientific went deeper by studying organism and then going deeper and deeper and now to the core which is DNA...wat do u say?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

*scientific research

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

or is it complicated..:/

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

hmmm well genetic engineering you can use it for your theme like PCR advantages, How genes tell ancestory etc it's such a vast subject :P

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

It's complicated a bit needs a lot of time but it's very good choice

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

i want something really vast...so people could write articles about it...

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

yeah then genetic engineering is what you can choose :)

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ahh..yep...i have noted it down...i have 2 give atleast 2-3 topics...so then me and my professors could come down to 1..thanks again:D

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

ok :)

OpenStudy (abb0t):

PCR.

OpenStudy (gtxmuqsit):

yeah @abb0t PCR :) :P polymerase chain reaction :P

OpenStudy (blues):

Phenology is a hot topic these days - relating climate and environmental data to ecological data. Basically studying the biologic effects of climate change.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Not hotter than PCR, imo.

OpenStudy (frostbite):

What about designer proteins based on predictive models from chemical shifts?

OpenStudy (frostbite):

I personally consider it hot due the fact I read sooo many papers about this and I've not yet found a universal model.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ummmm...srry but i dint quite get u...:/can u explain?

OpenStudy (frostbite):

imagine that we could predict a proteins structure and thereby it's function alone from knowing it's primary sequence. Well, this is what some are trying, but instead of looking at the sequence it self, they look at the NMR chemical shift. From these we can calculate thermodynamical data (as you wrote to me about) like structural order and disorder.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

wooaahhh...i got u in d first...this seems cool...:D but i kinda lost u in d middle...wats NMR chemical shift?

OpenStudy (frostbite):

Never heard of NMR? Nuclear Magnetic Resonance?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ahhh yes yes...i have...

OpenStudy (frostbite):

Good well, we can do the same for proteins and the chemical shifts, which compares the frequency of the sample proton to the frequency of the reference compound. The frequency is corresponding from the difference in energy. You can deduce it your self using the energy of a magnetic dipole against am external magnetic field with a certain strength. Is it just me or is this no longer biology? (please don't ban me :( )

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ummm...okaaayyyy....i am kind of getting it...it sounds really cool....but i guess i need to read a lil more about it....i hope it doesnt move towards chemistry though...

OpenStudy (frostbite):

Well... I think I'm going disappoint you then. :/

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

no...its really good...ill read a lil more about this though...i m kind of new in this..so...

OpenStudy (muneefa):

now a days Stem cell research is a good theme. now researchers find that stem cell is used in cancer therapy,to develope organgs etc

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

thanks muneefa..:D

OpenStudy (muneefa):

welcome shruthi....so do you select any theme????????

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

i am actually making a list of 4-5 themes..and then my professor is going to choose from those...so just preparing my list..:D

OpenStudy (muneefa):

All the best then............

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

thanks..:)

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

recombinant DNA -> genetic engineering -> gene therapy -> artificial life

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

thanks nin..:)

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

I gave you a whole course, not just one theme this is all about gene sequencing technology, which gave rise to biotechnology

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

yep..so true...i wanted such topics which can extended a lot....thank u..:)
