A hot water tank holds 200L of water. When the tap is opened, the water drains at a rate of 15L/min.The amount of water left in the tank after t minutes is given by the A=200-15t. a)How much water will be left in the tank after 5 minutes?10 minutes? b) Solve the formula for t c)How long to the nearest minute will it take to drain the tank?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for a), plug in the values for t. find A when t = 5 and t = 10. for b), isolate t in the equation, the way that A is isolated in the original example for c) find t when A = 0

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

so for part a i'd have to do 200-15x5 and then 200-15x10 to find the answer?

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

juts trying to clarify somethings

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

and with part b i have to divide ? since it multiplies

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

and with c find it when its just 0 ...but then what do i do with 0 wouldnt the answer just be 0 for everything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. at some point yes and no, A = 0 means 0 = 200 - 15t ---> 15t = 200 solve for t (goinh to eat ill be back)

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

oh so i have to find t lol np

OpenStudy (shelby1290):

i'll show you my answers to make sure im correct so i might take a while as well
