\[d=s*t\]Distance equals the speed times time, so:\[t=\frac{d}{s}=\frac{1 block}{40\frac{mile}{hr}}\cdot \frac{1 mile}{8 block}\cdot\frac{3600s}{1hr}=11.25s\]Is what I get.

One way to check and see if your calculation was correct is to see if it produced the right units for time:\[\frac{40 \frac{mile}{hr}}{8block}=5\frac{miles}{hr*block}\]Which obviously doesn't make sense.
