HELP!!!!! Without multiplying, determine the sign of the product (-0.3)(-9.2)(8.1)(-4.2)(-0.8)

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Count the number of the minus(-) sign. If that number is odd the sign of the product is negative, if it's even the product is positive.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK Thanks!

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Welcome, so what did you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

I meant for the sign :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know I am still a little confused

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

D you know what's an odd/even number is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Is 4 an even or odd number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

That's correct, so what would the sign of the product be from the definition above ?

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Remember: even number of (-) sign -> positive product odd number of (-) sign -> negative product

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHH OK I get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what @math&ing001 said is that if there are odd number of negative signs in the expression, the answer would be negative but if there are even number of negative signs, answer would be positive because they would kind of cancel each other out. you know that -number * -number = +number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

So could you give me the answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Positive?

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

Glad I could help

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):
