This is kind of a tricky question, but I'd say (B) German forces. The reason why it's tricky is because in the first few years, the US sent a larger number of soldiers and resources to combat Japan in the Pacific.

But eventually, a "Europe First" strategy emerged that focused on Germany as a worse threat, and by the last two or so years of the war, most of the military resources of the US ended up in Europe. Even with so much sent over there, however, the US was still able to battle Japan in the Pacific and eke out victories of its own.

Captain page turner is incorrect with his facts. The United States did not immediately send ground troops to Japan; however, they did maintain their aircraft carriers. Following the Japanese assault on pearl harbor, as well as Nazi Germany declaring war on the United States, FDR decided to accustom ground troops to fighting in North Africa, and not Japan, like you previously stated.

That being said, the correct answer is still B; however, his reasoning was misconstrued.
