Many people argue that the high cost of research outweighs its potential benefits. Provide one argument for and against increasing current funding for atomic structure research. Use specific examples.

Hm in the "for" argument, you can talk about the benefits that could come from understanding atomic/molecular states and behaviour of matter and how these can be of use in material sciences e.g. metamaterials or room temp superconductors in the "against", you can talk about the need for funding of social services related to mental health issues that have been permeating the population in the US
