I'd suggest drawing this figure, along with all four diagonals. This divides the octahedron into eight identical isosceles triangles. What is the length of each of the two equal sides of one such triangle? What is the acute angle within each triangle? What is the height of each triangle? With these questions answered, one need only find the area of one of these triangles and multiply the result by 8.
