Imperialism is basically when a larger more powerful country goes into a smaller weaker country and takes over to gain something and influence the people that live there; they basically make whatever country they took over "theirs". They typically gain control for land or resources. A way that the US participated in Imperialism was when they proposed the Open Door Policy on China so that they could get in on the resources and trade that other powerful countries that had spheres of influence in China had.
