You have a side labeled x and a side labeled 10.4. You are also given the measure of angle A as 49 deg. A right triangle has two legs and a hypotenuse. Can you name the hypotenuse of this triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I drew and wrote the problem as it is written on my homework

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

I know, I saw it. Can you tell which side is the hypotenuse?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The hypotenuse is "X". Since it's the longest side .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that what you're asking?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Great. The easy way to tell is that the hypotenuse is the side opposite the right angle. You are right. x is the hypotenuse. When we deal with the sine, cosine and tangent functions of a right triangle, we call the legs the "opposite leg" and the "adjacent leg." We are looking at angle A, the 49-degree angle. With respect to angle A, which leg is the opposite leg and which leg is the adjacent leg?
