If a total of 1600 square centimeters of material is to be used to make a box with a square base and an open top, find the largest possible volume of such a box.

Volume of a box= base x width x height. If you know the bottom has to be a "square base", then base=width. By substitution, V=(base)^2 x height. If you take the first derivative of this, you should set V'=1600 and solve for your variables.
